Two of my favourite people turned 30 in October, so to celebrate we all went on a little trip to Berlin! A place we'd all been talking about going to for a long time, and it didn't disappoint.
We stayed in a gorgeous Airbnb apartment in Südkreuz which was situated on a tree lined street, just a few minutes walk away from the station. Some of our highlights of the trip were -
Tiergarten Berlin’s largest and most popular inner-city park. We spent almost a full day exploring and then got a fantastic view of the whole park from above as we went to the top of the Berlin Victory Column. Stopping for currywurst on the way back into the city centre.
East Side Gallery A 1.3 km long section of the Berlin Wall located near the centre of Berlin on Mühlenstraße in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
Kreuzberg was one of our favourite parts (a close second to Prenzlauer Berg). We had lunch at Burgermeister which deserves all the hype it receives, and spent an afternoon exploring the streets full of cafes, bars, independent shops and more. A particular favourite was Hopfenreich a craft beer bar with a really great selection and lovely atmosphere.
Olympiastadion Originally built for the 1936 Summer Olympics by Werner March, it's a pretty impressive sight!
Prenzlauer Berg was my personal favourite! Beautiful streets, record shops, and photo booths everywhere. It also features Meierei, a cafe where we ate possibly the best strudel ever.
Photoautomats are dotted all over the city, there's a handy map here to help you find them! Each one is slightly different, which meant of course we had to try out as many as possible..
Train Cocktailbar which is exactly what it's called. A refurbished street car wagon from 1920 is home to the bar, close to Kleistpark at Schöneberg.
Wirtshaus Heuberger in Schöneberg where we ate schnitzel for the first time, and it didn't disappoint! Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and very tasty food.
We definitely fell for Berlin and there's lots more we'd still like to see, so that means we have to go back right? I'd love to hear your suggestions of places to visit if you've been to Berlin before.
